The Gravity of Belief
40x60” collage w/ gold leaf
Gold leaf represents purity and wealth, spirituality and illumination. The theme of this work is not to indict the ceremony of religion but to weigh the responsibility of our individual relationships with it. Religious beliefs are uniquely tied to the afterlife, across all cultures. Therefor our faith lies in being told, rather than having experienced the very thing we seek to understand the most about who we are, and more importantly, why we are.
Becoming unbound by the trappings of society through self awareness and patience with oneself and others.
14’x18” framed - mixed media collage with gold leaf
Listening to yourself and paying attention to the exterior noises that can steer your perception. Being patient and thoughtful with yourself.
40”x60” collage on wood panel
Finding the beautiful embrace of your own being through deep, dark meditation and self awareness.

THE FASHIONABLE IMPASSABLE
The name Durga, means “impassable, invincible.” Durga, the 8-armed Hindu warrior goddess of protection therefor becomes a skeleton of concept for this look at our interpersonal relationship with fashion, self expression, and our dramaturgical behavior. The world as theatre, ourselves as actors. Wearing our creative selves on our sleeves. The power, and the hubris, of confidence in our projections of beauty. The implications of pushing it too far, and yet owning the strength of overcoming the fears of a society so quick to criticize. Step aside, or get run over.

40x60” collage
Spellcasting is an ode to, or maybe a swan song of, magic. Like mythology itself, we’ve all but given up on allowing the things we don’t understand to remain mysterious. Death, love, time, space. The heroine sits naked upon a wood pire, a witch in Salem surrounded by more questions than answers. A meditation on the simplicity of not knowing everything there is to know. But believing in that magic.
40X60” collage
An exploration of sensuality and self-love. The cardboard halo is a reflection of the anxiety we have around sin and sexuality. The fragile passage between our humaness and the idea that anything we enjoy might be our downfall based soley on what we’ve been taught. Our heroine wears an iron glove to deal with the judgement and hardness of the world, yet relishes her experiences within it.
4’ X 6’ collage
The battle between what we know about ourselves and how we are perceived. Holding our vices to the lips of God while moving gracefully through life feeling the weight of mortality while still celebrating it. Beauty in chaos, beauty in not knowing. Seeking understanding rather than redemption.
40x60” collage
This was actually a lyric from a song I wrote with my band Black Owls. It’s a simple study in yearning for simplicity and finding beauty in the smallest elegances of life.
40X60” collage with gold and silver leaf
This character represents the psyche as both the holder of the id and the ego. Our dynamic balancing act between humility and confidence, arrogance and empathy. We sit poised atop our thinking, wondering how to let our feelings reflect our core selves. Devil and angels on our shoulders, we are magnificent and frail.
40X60” collage with gold and silver leaf
Not listening in prayer, waiting for answers; but listing to how the idea of God intervenes when you need it. It’s about hearing what you need to hear when you are both broken, and at peace. The voice inside you, speaking to you when you are alone with your thoughts.
24x36” collage
A projection of strength in feminine energy. Feeling the graceful power of being with confident and grounded women from the perspective of a sometimes fragile male ego. As a Leo myself, the lion figure goes hand in hand with my sense of self confidence, but also my ridiculous hubris. The pride male is often seen getting his ass handed to him by the pride females. I get that.
LOVE IS WHERE YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF
24x36” collage
A deeply moving and very basic idea. We’re constantly looking outside of ourselves for nearly everything we already have inside. To understand that we’re not seeking love, but that we are love is such a simple concept, but so hard to accept. I have this term (in spanish) tattooed on my arm to remind myself. You’ll never truly find love outside until you accept it inside.
A bit of a poke at the Salvador Dali “persistence of memory”, this piece reflects our love/hate with our past lives. Vanity and tragedy and love and fondness for the things we’ve lost or never found. Sounds a bit melancholy but it’s really a love letter to letting go.
A piece of art about making art. The creative process is full of divine inspiration and maddening anxiety whether it be music, painting, sculpture, writing, everything. Facing fears and pains and breaking the chains that hold you back. All the while, staying with it, moving in the right direction.
IF IT DOESN’T SERVE YOU, LET IT FLY.
A celebration of throwing out the things that get in our way. Changing our energy by changing our surroundings. Letting go of the bad shit. Make it a ceremony: write it on a paper airplane, light it on fire and throw it into the water.
A piece to honor the power of meditation. I’ve practiced Transcendental Meditation after getting certified years ago, and it’s been a very calming influence. The visual represents “the deep tranquility of where I end up” in deep meditation.
This great quote by Alejandro Jodorowsky (Chilean-French filmmaker and artist) is one of my favorite phrases to define our misunderstanding of our limitless potential. We spend so much time defining our limits albeit conditioning, strife, and external circumstances that we forget to look inward. This piece honors our time to reflect on who and why we are, not where and when we are.
A study in the grace of human form and composition in a street art manner.
40”x60” collage digital print on hangers
40X60” collage
A tribute piece to all of the powerful women who have shaped their lives in their own image, against the grain of societal constraint, and inspire us to do the same.
40X60” collage
Against the push and pull of convention, religion, and societal restraint, our heroine faces the world armed and naked, both confident and vulnerable. The golden guns fire honey and pearls, they represent her ability to disarm with elegance and charm rather than bravado or aggression.
40x60” collage
Finding beauty and patterns in decay and entropy. The human footprint as both blight and interest. Vulnerable in the urban landscape amid a certain order in the deconstructed and abandoned places we can’t let go of.
64X96” COLLAGE
Goddess of time, change, creation, destruction and power. She destroys evil in order to protect the innocent.
My iteration steps away from the conventional depiction this 4 armed Hindu goddess to reflect a western meets far eastern take, when combined, feels more like an adaptation of the Grim Reaper.
Kali holds 3 weapons that represent creation, destruction, and power. As well, she holds a blind hourglass (you cannot see the sand) as only Kali controls the fate of time.
64X96” collage
Hindu goddess of Love, lust and pleasure. A maiden who holds the power to enchant the God of love.
In my depiction she is worshipped and craddled by the faceless power of lust and pleasure. How we find comfort in the touch of others.
The snake represents Kama, or Eros, Gods of Love, charmed by her beauty.
Branches sprouting from her head represent pleasure being grounded in nature (as well as her nakedness). She ignores the crown and bares herself to motherhood.
The surrounding of thorns speaks to our human (on the ground) struggle with the morality of pleasure. It is, at times unobtainable because of our rooted fear of sin.

THE MACHINES ARE TRYING TO TELL US SOMETHING
We are beginning a new era of relationship with artificial intelligence and in doing so, abstracting our sense of diety in order to “breath life” into the inanimate. Is spirit indeed flowing through non-sentient form, if it can act independently of man?

OF ANIMALS AND MEN
We, the stewards of the animal kingdom hold reverence to that which we inadvertently destroy. This piece is a a more optimistic honorarium to the benevolence of our desire to see the universal spirit in all living things. Also, to see beyond our immediate environment into the universe, so that we might better appreciate these relationships.

THE TOTEM QUEEN
Somewhere in our affection for articles of beauty we’ve given a piece of our own self-identification to their place. Lost in admiration, the small totems of our everyday lives hold deeper context in our imaginations than we sometimes realize. They become a part of our self expression. The dark side is that if not careful we can become mired in our affinity for objects, but the Totem Queen piece is about honoring the creativity that they project.

THE ARCHITECT OF DESTINY
As with every aspect of creation, we bring our souls to bare on the finished product. In the maze of buildings and industry we see ourselves reflected back as “civilization” - whether good or bad, is up to us to decide. The high-rise looks beyond our toils, to the future, even as we think we are indifferent to it’s own making, by our hands.

URBANITE´
As we moved from the fields into the cities, our shared cultures melded to form a new style of urban decorum. The industrial revolution established wide swaths of cultural overlap and shared struggle that both united and divided religious and societal parameters. This “stirring of the pot” created it’s own heat, flavor, texture and visual flamboyance. As it ages, it assumes the character of the human history it leaves behind.

ART OF FISSURE INTELLIGENCE
Artistic and intrinsic merit is subject to the whims of the masses, and with the advent of profound communication technologies, artistic efforts lay open and threadbare to audiences that may not seek to comprehend them. The medium itself, “technology” has become the art form. And so the art that lives within the belly of this master has become it’s dialog - notwithstanding that itself might be an answer to questions. The internet as the modern gallery of no distinctive impression.

THE PEN AND THE SWORD
Subjecting ourselves to so much information can leave us feeling trapped between the freedom of understanding, and the easier path - acceptance of powerlessness. The act of writing, creating, performing as a way to make sense of the chaos we see around us is cathartic and necessary. To simply take up arms in fear fetters us by exposing our vulnerability and insecurity. We see ourselves sometimes as both halves of a world in question. Stuck between the question and the answer. True freedom never reflects fear.
